Our Vision for the Office

The Secretary of State should be someone who is well-versed in administration and managing an ever-growing pipeline of records.

Shirley Weber

Why vote for her: Shirley Weber is a rare politician who achieves performance with progressive policies. As Secretary of State, Weber oversaw the updating and transition of the state’s campaign finance and business filing system. A former San Diego State professor, Weber pushed for real education reform that prioritized student achievement above political appeasement of the California Teachers Association (CTA) during her eight-year tenure in the State Assembly. She is one of the few California Democrats willing to stand up to the CTA, most notably in 2015 when she proposed a bill that would require teachers to be evaluated based on their students’ performance.

Weber also pushed for better school accountability when it came to how well students were educated and co-authored a state ballot measure to restore the right to vote to people on parole for a felony conviction.
