NOVEMBER 2024 VOTER GUIDE
U.S. REPRESENTATIVE
What is a United States Representative?
Congressional Representatives serve geographic districts of about 750,000 people in the the United States House of Representatives, which is made up of 435 members.
Congressional Representatives author legislation, advocate for their constituents’ interests, and secure money for their districts’ initiatives.
They serve two-year terms, with no term limits. They receive an annual salary of $174,000 unless they are in leadership positions.
Why You Should Care
Once elected in San Francisco, one of the safest Democratic districts in the country, it’s almost impossible to remove representatives from office. So, paying attention to the candidates in the once-in-a-blue moon-competitive election is really important. When they want to get involved, Congressional reps wield a lot of power at the local level. Given the immense scale of problems like the fentanyl crisis in San Francisco, we need federal assistance. Our Congressmember can deliver that level of help.
Our Vision for This Office
We believe members of Congress should be people with proven track records of delivering results for their constituents or who offer a new perspective to the office, and who will work to better the State of California.
✅ Nancy Pelosi | District 11
Nancy Pelosi is an institution in Congress. She’s led the Democratic party through more than 30 years of ups (like her guidance of the Affordable Care Act through Congress) and downs (the complete cluster**** that was the Trump administration). Speaker Emerita Pelosi wields her power and influence to consistently deliver for the country and for San Francisco. Last year, due to the pressure generated from our advocacy efforts through the That’s Fentalife! Campaign, Pelosi advocated for San Francisco to be designated as an Operation Overdrive city, making it one of the select few cities to receive a federal law enforcement deployment meant to target and dismantle fentanyl trafficking. Legislatively, she supported President Biden’s agenda to get the country back on track after COVID, voting in favor of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, American Rescue Plan Act, For the People Act, and several other significant bills.
While we’re endorsing Speaker Emerita Pelosi, she’s really the only option here, since she faces no real opposition this election. In the future, we hope there’s an opportunity for Congress’s next generation of leadership to be able to step up to the plate in San Francisco. Until then, we hope Pelosi continues to wield her considerable power over federal resources to help end our drug crisis, whether we call attention to it or not.
✅ Kevin Mullin | District 15
At the start of Representative Mullin’s first term in 2023, the House of Representatives flipped from majority Democratic to majority Republican. Control of Congress was decided by just five seats that year (this is why every election is important, people!) So Mullin hasn’t been able to do much legislatively, other than vote with the Democratic Party.
Still, in his first two years in Congress, Mullin has proven he can be a reliable voice for addressing nationwide issues like climate change and gun violence without losing focus on local initiatives. Representative Mullin has fought for tens of millions of dollars for schools, infrastructure, and climate resiliency in his district. Since Mullin has no real competition from either party this election, he’s your only serious candidate in this race.
