WHY YOUR VOICE MATTERS

Last week, Supervisor Matt Dorsey introduced a Charter Amendment that would have baked full police staffing into San Francisco’s City Charter. But Supervisor Ahsha Safaí amended the legislation to condition full police staffing based on voters raising taxes. Safaí believes voters should pay more for basic city services like a fully staffed police department, even with a $14 billion city budget.

The legislation as amended by Supervisor Safaí is bad budgetary policy and bad governance, which is unfortunate to see from a mayoral candidate. Now, it is imperative that we prevent this legislation from making it onto the 2024 ballot.
