Organizer

What We’re Looking For

TogetherSF and our sister organization, TogetherSF Action, are fast-paced civic engagement organizations seeking an Organizer to join our San Francisco team to assist with outreach and engagement through relationship building, volunteer development, relational organizing, and in-person and online events.

A TogetherSF Organizer reports to the TogetherSF Field Director and assists in forwarding the TogetherSF vision, community relationships, program development, implementation, data tracking, and iteration. Organizers will focus on building capacity in our volunteer base, growing our network, and organizing to win elections and issues campaigns.

​​About the Role

Organizers report to the Field Director and support the work of the Political Team. This position is full time and includes benefits. The salary range for this position is $70,000–$95,000 based on experience.

Organizers will focus on:

  • Organizing: relationship building and volunteer development with individuals and groups

    • Identify and cultivate relationships with community members who can complete an advocacy action with TogetherSF and TogetherSF Action mainly through intentional one to one meetings

    • Identify community members who can amplify the TogetherSF and TogetherSF Action messages

    • Teach community members the skills to complete advocacy actions and invest significant time in developing their skills as community leaders

  • In-person and online community engagement events

    • Plan, lead, and manage community events, most commonly “House Parties”

      • Plan: coordinate with hosts, help build for events, coach hosts to ensure maximum turnout

      • Attend events as the primary staffer, give presentations, and build relationships with attendees

      • Follow up communication and data tracking including thank yous, scheduling 1:1s with potential community members, identifying future advocacy actions, or general community organizing, and CRM data entry

      • Attend community, neighborhood, merchant and neighborhood association events as needed

  • Marketing

    • Assist Marketing Team with promotion plans for events including graphic design and

      copywriting requests

    • Collect photos, video, testimonials, and stories from events

  • Program development

    • Assist in the strategy, planning, program development, execution, data tracking, and alignment with organizing goals

    • Assist in identifying effective engagement, event content, and event flow to reach programming goals at each event

  • Field Work

    • Set strategy, plan, and run voter engagement actions such as phone banks, lit drops, and canvassing

About You

  • Passion for San Francisco with some knowledge of San Francisco’s civic and political landscape is a major plus but not required

  • Passion for organizing. You are always thinking about how you can develop more relationships and build up the power of the people you are working with

  • Prior work on political campaigns and political organizing a plus, but not required

  • 2+ years experience as a problem solver: work through data collection process errors and breakdowns, search for information or answer to a problem on their own first

  • You have some familiarity or experience with basic organizing tools and principles such as power mapping, 1:1s, story of self, and ladder of engagement

  • Attention to detail and excellent communication skills

  • Fluency in Mandarin or Cantonese is a major plus but not required

  • Flexible and focused on solutions: taking ownership of a problem, individual or team, until a solution has been found and the task is complete

  • Able to confidently speak in public and lead trainings and other events

  • Knowledge of digital organizing tactics and tools, including strategic use of social media platforms and email for organizing members/volunteers including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Slack, and EveryAction Network platforms as well as experience working with phone bank tools including predictive dialers and P2P SMS messaging (Scale to Win, PDI, CallHub, Hustle, etc.) preferred but not required

  • Organized and self-sufficient: able to provide weekly updates to manager that clearly outline their work areas, updates, blockers, and needs

  • Able to lift 30 lbs

  • Work evenings and weekends as needed
